 Frequently Asked Questions

How is the team run?
On the field, our team runs just like any Varsity program. Our players are extremely dedicated, and our practices are very demanding. Off the field, we administrate ourselves. Student-atheltes from the team serve as President, Vice President and Treasurer, and they handle all off the field administration.

How much support do you get from the school?
The University funds approximately 20-25 % of our budget.

How is the rest of the money raised?
We have fundraisers during the school year, and every player is responsible for their share of the fundraising program. There are also fall and spring dues. Although, it varies for 1st year players it is approximately $ 300 for fallball and approximately $ 700 for the spring. New players must also purchase their helmet and gloves which remain their property and are used for their entire career.

What if I can not afford dues? Provisions are always made for those players who legitimately have difficulty in paying dues. A payment program can be worked out or a player can do extra fundraising to offset a portion of the dues.

Are there scholarships available?
No, as we are not a Varsity program no athletic scholarships are available.

How much and when do you practice?
In the Fall we practice in the evenings twice per week: Tuesdays & Thursdays from 6:30 until 9:20. There are approximately 25 practices and 6 fall ball games (although this varies slightly from year to year). Practice starts the week after school starts and ends the Friday night before Thanksgiving.
In the Spring, we practice every weeday from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Since we have an indoor practice facility and the football stadium available to us, we never cancel practice due to inclement weather. In the Spring, we play approximately 18 regular season games.

What kind of facilities do you have?
We have our own lighted field turf facility where we practice and play all of our games. The facility is two years old and is not open for public use.

How does the team interact?
We are a verly closely knit team athletically, socially and academcially. Florida State lacrosse is very much a brotherhood.

What is it like to be at Florida Sate?
It is an exciting campus and the people at the University—students and staff-- are extremely enthusiastic and friendly. Although a big school (40,000) the campus is relatively small (only 350 acres) which makes for a close, friendly atmosphere.

How is the student population broken down?
It is approximately 65% female and 35% Male.

How does team travel?
Most of our travel is done by coach bus. In addition to being a safer way to travel, it's also a more comofortable and enjoyable experience for our players. When a bus trip is not practical, we do travel by plane.
